Holding Framed Walls

From left to right: Mr. Petit keeping people on the level, Benjamin Bergstrom standing in the gap, Kevin, Nathan holding framed walls. With Mr. Petit, Mr. Bergstrom, and Mr. Klemet, (and their boys) we were able to frame the interior walls over the house in one day!!!

Teamwork!

Ruthie, Hannah, and Teresa... Teamwork gets the job done fast! This project has taught us how to work together in a new way!

Papa O and Grammy Encourage and Help

Papa O took a break from pulling nails to help Christian hold the wall while Mr. Olsen levels it.
Papa O and Grammy came several times to help. One of the rooms in our home will be a guest room. We hope they will come and stay with us often! You're welcome also!

Watching Wall Go Up!

5 Weeks from the beginning: the first upstairs wall went up and one of the garage walls is sheeted. Yay!

Jacking up west wall

Mr. Olsen, Dad, Kevin, Christian Search, Papa O, and Nathan jacking up the west wall for the second story. Notice the cross overhead in the sky. It reminded us of God's grace on our home and our lives. Posted by Picasa

Go-Get-em Garveys

Mrs. Garvey teaching Hannah about framing! Mrs. Garvey amazed us all with her construction abilities!

Playground!

For a kid, construction sites are playgrounds! Posted by Picasa

Thanks Christian Search a.k.a Super Christian!

Christian has been coming out on his days off and helping us. What a life-saver!

The Cool - Knopp Crew

Jordan Cools cuts while Nathan uses the nail gun. And Josh Knopp is helping lay OSB board for our second story floor.

Young bucks moving a 37 foot glulam. Left to right: Justin Knopp, Quin Cools, Kevin, Eric Knopp, and Dad. Mr. Knopp brought his city boys to the country, taking a break from playing beautiful string music, to swing a hammer. They joined us with gusto!

It's Raining!!!!

We woke up one morning to pitter-pat, pitter-pat on our tent top. We spend the next few hours with the shop-vac and rags drying up things. Our home was completely opened to the sky for 2 weeks. The plastic protected our kitchen and this computer!!! Our neighbors and church family graciously supplied us with meals for those 2 weeks. What a blessing!

Going to the beach!

Sand was filled in and leveled for the garage pad. The younger ones really enjoyed this beach adventure! In the picture from left to right are: Lydia, Ruth; Colby and Wyatt Wolford.

Removing Fireplace Bricks

While removing the fireplace, we found a brick stating the date that the fireplace was built. 1966. And a brick amongst them all that said "HIDDEN". The children thought this was a mystery to a hidden treasure in the house, and continued to look for clues throughout the demolition process. We later found out that the Hidden Family Brick Company, in Vancouver WA, supplied bricks for the area for many years and would put a signature brick in their jobs.

Dad and Mr. Wolford removing the bricks from where the fireplace used to be.
The Wolford family faithfully came many nights after work to help until well after dark. The children moved material and removed staples and nails from many, many boards. Lauri organized meals and many nights took laundry home. They have been a major support in this project.

School Room Gone!

Matthew Vivian came out for a couple days and helped with this part. He and Kevin had contests sledging down supporting beams and lumber.

Demolishing the School Room

Winslows Help

Mr. Winslow and Beth came out one Saturday. Beth, Teresa, and Laura took sheetrock off the walls while Mr. Winslow built and installed a new header for a window.

Demolition!

Dad is stomping the ceiling through while Mr. Wolford is carrying the sheet rock out to the dumpster.
Hannah also took sheet rock out to the dumpster.

Covering with Plastic

Mom and Mrs. Wolford covered the bunk beds left in the house and the kitchen in plastic while the guys were coming right behind them, stomping the ceiling down... talk about a race against time!!! Posted by Picasa

Saving Wood

The little diligent helpers hammered out nails and staples so we can reuse the wood. Our neighbors drove really slow to wave as they watched our family working in the front yard. Posted by Picasa

Bobcat Prowls

We used a bobcat to remove the old driveway and dig a trench across the yard for electricity. Mom says it looked like a moat. Posted by Picasa

A Firm Foundation

Kevin, Dad, Papa O, and Mr. Olsen fill the stem walls with concrete for the will-be garage.

Removing Roof

Nathan is throwing lumber off the roof that was attached to the rafters.
No, he is not playing his fiddle on the roof.
Dad and Kevin are taking off the roof shingles.

Timber!

The first thing we needed to do was take out a tree. The Wolford family came over for our drag'n party. (We were dragging all the branches back to the burn pile.) This also commemorates Dad's 50th birthday! Posted by Picasa
