Roofing

We are glad to see the roof finally being installed. We decided to hire out this part as Mom thought that falling off the roof and a trip to the ER would be more expensive than the labor to put it on!!! Praise God we have a dry roof overhead now! Thank you to all of our friends' help and prayers to get us this far!

Painting the Eaves

Dad, Kevin, and Nathan worked till 10:30pm last night painting the eaves before the roofers covered the area.

Barge Rafters

Getting ready to roof!!!

The roofing company is loading all their materials onto the roof with an escalator. We're getting excited around here!!!
The plan is to get the house waterproof, windows, doors, a roof, and plumbing. Then move back in to the 2 rooms downstairs while we work on the upstairs interior as time and money allows. Posted by Picasa

Working on the Roof...

Construction Site Toys

Ruthie had a brilliant idea that she could make knitting needles out of nails! It's pretty cute. Posted by Picasa

Trusses

This is the part that most people call an attic. You can see the OSB board lying on top of the trusses, ready to be nailed down as sheeting. A bit of the tarp is in the picture as well. The tarp has been covering the roof through the rain and drizzles we have been having. The younger family members enjoy hopping from truss to truss and swinging among the rafters like monkeys... makes for a great kids' play structure!!! Posted by Picasa

Edmonds Crew

Mr. Edmonds and Stephen cutting OSB board.

Ben Edmonds hammering braces to give the trusses extra support and security. Nathan Edmonds also came out, but he was so fast he blurred all the pictures!

Walkers cover milage

Mr. Walker brought Joseph and Bryce out to put one foot in front of the other and cover some milage. Together we sheeted the roof and did some other odd jobs.

The Glow Blow Shift

This is what the Glow Blow shift looks like from down below. Dad, Mr. Rieggs, Nathan, and Kevin are spreading trusses for the room over the garage after dark. (And Mr. Barclay helped Laura with this night photography!)

Bom.bardier, Knopps/Bradleys, Riegg, and Barclay build with us

Mr. Rieggs helping lift a gable end wall for the second floor roof over the garage.

On Sat., Sept. 16th, The Knopps and some Bradley boys came out; Mr. Knopp helped with truss work while the boys moved wood and shoveled dirt. Mr. Bom.bardier helped ALL day!!!! And Mr. Rieggs and Mr. Barclay came for the "glow blow" shift (the house glows with light in the night as the guys blow through the work!) in the evening and gave the Straub guys a second wind that got a lot accomplished, then stayed around and ate cookies and talked with us.

Sheeting the Roof Tresses

Kevin, Quin Cools, and Mr. Cools going through higher education. That is, learning more lessons as they tight-walk trusses and sheet them. Posted by Picasa

It's Raining, It's Pouring, and no one is snoring!!!

It rained and, wow!, did it rain! We had 4 shop-vacs going at full speed. Everyone was drenched and sopping wet, but there was no time to think of how wet and cold you were. The second floor is open to the sky and the floor is not water-proof yet so the water flooded through the floor seams. The kitchen was raided and anything that could hold water was catching the worst torrents through the ceiling. The little ones had a full time job emptying those containers.
The Cools were there and the Wolfords came over that evening and helped get the sheeting on the trusses.
Needless to say, we all were very, very exhausted when we went to bed that night!
Speaking of going to bed, our neighbor stopped by and encouraged us to stay in the downstairs of his home. We were very grateful for a warm, dry place to sack out. So we said good-bye to our tents and treked on over to two of our neighbors' homes. They are so gracious and God is so good, so good, to us. Posted by Picasa

Harrises Help

Mr. Harris and his sons came out for a few hours and were a big help. They helped us stand trusses and move OSB sheets and learned a little about building in the process!

God holds clouds in His hands

I looked above me and saw clear sky. The weather forecast predicted rain this hour. I looked out the window hole in the wall and saw a circle of clouds all around us. I looked about the whole house, it was amazing! The clouds were dark and heavy everywhere around us but over our home! It didn't last that long, but I think God did that just so I would praise His Name at that moment and to show me a glimpse of His sovereignty over the earth and His care for His children. Posted by Picasa

Public Utility Goes Beyond Call of Duty

The Public Utility men came out to switch out the power-line pole because it was rotten. They also cut down our power line because we are switching to underground lines. After their job was done, the team stayed around and helped us set up our power and was extremely helpful! God blessed us so much with their knowledge, extra hands, and tools. It was yet another way God showed His faithfulness in our lives in the most surprising and unusual ways! Posted by Picasa

Roof Trusses Arrive!

The wall went up in preparation for laying the trusses.

God provides a staircase!

Yet another story of God's provision. Our neighbor's co-worker and the co-worker's brother, who is a professional stair-builder, came over and built our stairs in 3-1/2 hours. It was amazing, and we didn't even know them! God continues to provide for all of our needs, and often in very unexpected ways.

God's Faithfulness and Provision

Teresa has spent a lot of time on the computer and phone lately communicating with potential buyers of our old wood stove, shower, and the like. It's exciting every time another person comes from Craigslist.com and takes their treasure from our yard!

The trusses are scheduled to be delivered on Wed. morning. And then it seems that God has scheduled rain for the next 5 days.... His ways are much higher than ours and His plan much better - the man who trusts Him will never be dismayed.
One that note, we are working franticly preparing for the trusses. We prayed that God would send the help that we needed. A few hours later, we got a call and some friends of ours wanted to know if we could use their help this evening!!! Praise God. It was a direct answer to our prayers and God just proved to us again how incredible faithful He is to His children! This is not the first time it has happened. Every time one of our dear friends or family has come to help it has been an answer to prayer. Glory to His Name!

Keep praying for our family.
